Fandom: Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE
Characters/pairing: C!Syaoran/C!Sakura

Warnings: This is a very strange fic.  It could be very depressing or reassuring and uplifting, depending on your interpretation.  And it has misuse of certain key astrophysical theories.  Oh, and spoilers up to chapter 211.

"...love y-"
And she's disintegrating; a cloud of cherry petals scattered and torn by the wind.  A thousand dying scraps of consciousness that were once Sakura but not-Sakura, drifting apart.
Time seems to slow down, or stretch out.  She floats through darkness and snatches of what is to come, or has come, or might never come: visions of destroyed Tokyo, the snows of Jade country, a staircase, lights floating on water' her companions deciding to go on without her...
(a flicker of memory: a scientist in Infinity, talking of the death of a star.  As it collapses past a certain point it creates something like a hole in the fabric of the universe.  To fall in would be to fall to your death, but if you were to look back as you fell you might see the universe as it would be far into the future, because you would be falling into a place where time had stopped...)
She drifts on, in fragments, through fragments of many worlds, gradually fading.  Slowly, slowly disappearing.  There are other images: a white-haired girl with a sad face; her brother and Yukito gazing out over the desert; fading, fading.
And there's almost nothing left of her when with sudden clarity she sees Syaoran, her Syaoran, the boy she loved - stabbed through the chest, collapsing, bleeding.  And now he's breaking, shattering into tiny shards; she wants to reach him, tries to call his name but has no voice, and, and-

Somewhere beyond the end of all worlds, there is a desert.  It seems utterly empty: a flat plain of cracked, dusty earth stretching to a hazy horizon beneath a deep well of blue sky and a blinding sun.  The only sign of life is a girl in a white dress who walks steadily actoss the plain (though her feet never quite seem to touch the ground).
Her eyes are fixed on the horizon as if she's waiting for something to appear there, and yet there's only the haze.  She keeps walking, for hours, lifetimes, seconds; it's impossible to tell how long.  At last, though, another figure appears in the distance: a boy, walking towards her.

Their eyes meet, and maybe they walk faster - who can tell?  They speak each others' names, quietly, with voices unaccustomed to use.
And then the distance between them is gone, and they're embracing.  Maybe they laugh, or cry, and their tears bring the desert to life and transform it into a garden.  Maybe they walk hand-in-hand into the sky.  Maybe they stand there together for eternity, if such a thing as eternity exists in this place.  Maybe it doesn't matter.  What matters in that the girl who lost her wings and the boy with half a heart can finally be together; and this is their story's end, or perhaps its beginning.  This is a place of infinite possibility and a time for everything...

...and then there is nothing but the last petal, fading away.
