*fangirly joy*
I have just read City of Glass, the third book in Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments trilogy. Sure, it's definitely not great literature - it's somewhat overwritten and under-edited - but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
My biggest worry before I read the book was how the Jace/Clary thing was going to be resolved. The only options I could see were a) killing one or both of them (which wouldn't have been great), b) having them just get over it after a whole lot of angst, or c) having them not be brother and sister after all (which I thought would be a cop-out). In the end, it was option c, but it was handled far better than I would have expected and didn't feel nearly as much of a deus ex machina as it should have. I really didn't see the Sebastian thing coming at all.
On another note, YAY MAGNUS/ALEC!!! Finally! I liked this pairing pretty much ever since the first hints about it were dropped in book one, and the angst and unresolved-ness in book two were half squee-inducing and half agonising. And then finally in book three! I loved the few scenes they got together - the Accords Hall one especially. They are now one of the few pairings I really consider OTPish.
What else? I loved seeing characters interact who hadn't interacted much before: Alec and Simon, Magnus and Clary, Simon and Isabelle and so on. It was great to finally get some scenes from Isabelle's POV too - she's one of my favourite characters.
Oh, and the Angel Sanctuary reference was epic win. Although Max really shouldn't be reading it...
Anyway, I recommend it to CLAMP fans (angst, messed-up relationships, love dodecahedron, urban fantasy, subtext etc.) and to urban fantasy fans and generally to most of my friends.
